Your wellbeing is our first priority. At Ebonjalo we want you to feel safe, prepared and cared for throughout your journey. Safaris in East Africa can be adventurous and unpredictable – that is part of their beauty – but with the right preparation and guidance, you can travel with peace of mind. On this page we explain everything you need to know about health and safety when booking with us.
A comprehensive travel and health insurance is essential for your safari. Your policy should cover medical expenses, emergency evacuation, repatriation, trip cancellation and personal belongings. Please arrange your insurance in your home country before you travel. We do not check policies – it is your responsibility to be covered – but we cannot stress enough how important this is for peace of mind on your journey.
Uganda and Kenya require certain vaccinations for entry, such as yellow fever. We strongly recommend consulting your doctor or a travel health clinic well in advance to check which vaccinations and malaria prevention are advised for your trip. It is wise to carry a small personal medical kit with essentials such as medication, disinfectant and rehydration salts.
If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or dietary requirements, please inform us at the time of booking. Many of our journeys take you into remote areas where access to medical facilities is limited. By sharing important information with us in advance, we can prepare appropriately and ensure your comfort and safety.
Our safaris often include moderate activity such as walking in forests, hills or savannahs, sometimes in warm and humid conditions. A reasonable level of fitness is required, though we always do our best to adjust the pace to individual needs. If you are unsure about your suitability for a specific itinerary, please let us know so we can advise.
Travelling through East Africa can involve rough roads, long distances and changing weather. To keep you safe, we work with experienced drivers and maintain our vehicles carefully. Delays can happen, but your guide will always keep you informed and ensure the journey continues as smoothly as possible.
Encountering wildlife in its natural habitat is a privilege. For your safety – and the wellbeing of the animals – it is essential to follow the instructions of your guide and park rangers at all times. Getting too close to wild animals or leaving designated areas is never permitted. Respectful distance ensures unforgettable yet responsible encounters.
Our safaris often bring you into contact with local communities. We ask all our guests to treat people, traditions and customs with respect. Always ask before taking photographs, dress modestly in villages, and approach cultural experiences with openness and sensitivity.
All our guides are trained in first aid and carry basic emergency equipment. In case of a serious incident, we maintain connections with local hospitals and evacuation partners to arrange medical assistance as quickly as possible. Your safety is our priority, and we are committed to acting with care in any emergency situation.
