Privacy Policy – Ebonjalo

This Privacy Policy was last updated on 7 September 2025.

At Ebonjalo, your privacy matters. We are committed to protecting your personal information and handling it in a transparent and secure way. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / AVG).

By using our website or booking a safari with us, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

Who We Are

Ebonjalo operates under JANBOELO, our parent company, registered under number 94983224 at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands. Contact: info@ebonjalo.com

What Information We Collect

We collect the information necessary to provide and arrange your safari. This may include:

  • Basic contact details: name, email address, telephone number, country of residence.
  • Booking details: nationality, passport details (for permits or hotel registrations), dietary requirements, medical information you choose to share.
  • Payment information: payment confirmations from Wise or your bank.
  • Website usage data: IP address, cookies, and analytics data (via Google Analytics and CookieYes).

Why We Collect Data (Legal Basis)

We process your personal data only when permitted by law. The main legal bases are:

  • Contract: to arrange and deliver the safari you booked.
  • Legal obligation: to comply with tax and accounting rules.
  • Consent: when you opt in for a newsletter.
  • Legitimate interest: to improve our website and services through analytics.

How We Use Your Data

  • To arrange your travel bookings (permits, lodges, guides, transport).
  • To communicate with you about your itinerary.
  • To process payments.
  • To improve our website and services.
  • To send newsletters, if you have subscribed.

We never sell your personal data.

How Long We Keep Your Data

We do not keep personal data longer than necessary:

  • Booking and invoice details: 7 years (required under Dutch tax law).
  • Emails and WhatsApp communication: up to 2 years after your trip.
  • Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe.
  • Website analytics: as managed by Google Analytics (anonymised where possible).

Information Sharing and Disclosure

We only share your data with trusted third parties when this is strictly necessary to arrange your safari — for example with lodges, national parks, payment providers or transport partners. These partners process your data under their own responsibility and according to their own privacy policies. While we carefully select our partners and share only what is required, we are not responsible for how these third parties handle or secure your personal information. We encourage you to review their privacy policies where relevant. If required by law, we may disclose data to authorities.

Data Transfers Outside the EU

Because our safaris take place in Uganda, we sometimes need to share your data (e.g. names, passport numbers) with partners based outside the EU. We do so only when necessary and with trusted partners (e.g. Uganda Wildlife Authority, local lodges).

By booking with us, you acknowledge and agree that certain data must be transferred outside the EU in order to arrange your safari.

Cookies & Tracking

Our website uses cookies to improve your browsing experience and gather aggregated statistics.

  • We use CookieYes to manage your cookie preferences.
  • We use Google Analytics to analyse site traffic.
  • You can change or withdraw your consent for cookies at any time via your browser settings or the CookieYes banner.

Your Rights under GDPR

You have the following rights:

  • Access: to know what data we hold about you.
  • Rectification: to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure: to request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Restriction: to limit how we use your data.
  • Portability: to receive your data in a transferable format.
  • Objection: to object to processing based on legitimate interests or direct marketing.

To exercise these rights, contact us at info@ebonjalo.com. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied, you can lodge a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (Netherlands) or your local EU data protection authority.

Security

We take data security seriously. Your information is stored on password-protected devices and, where possible, transmitted using encryption (e.g. SSL-secured website, encrypted payments via Wise). We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we follow best practices to minimise risk.

If you sign up for our newsletter, we will use your email address to send updates and offers. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link in the email or contacting us directly.
